Introduced by Peru's Central Reserve Bank in 1991, the nuevo sol replaced the inti at a million intis per sol after years of hyperinflation. Congress dropped the "nuevo" in 2015, so the currency is now simply the sol, a name that also means "sun" in Spanish.

Bangladesh introduced the taka on 4 March 1972, a few months after winning independence, replacing the Pakistani rupee at par. Bangladesh Bank issues notes of 10 taka and above, while the finance ministry puts out the small 2 and 5 taka notes. The name comes from the Sanskrit tanka, a silver coin.
