Kenya's shilling dates from 1966, when the newly created Central Bank of Kenya replaced the East African shilling at par. The old regional currency, shared with Uganda and Tanzania, remained valid in Kenya until 1969 while the new notes spread through the country.

Introduced by Peru's Central Reserve Bank in 1991, the nuevo sol replaced the inti at a million intis per sol after years of hyperinflation. Congress dropped the "nuevo" in 2015, so the currency is now simply the sol, a name that also means "sun" in Spanish.
