Hungary's forint, issued by the Hungarian National Bank, arrived on 1 August 1946 to replace the pengő, which hyperinflation had made worthless. The name is much older, borrowed from Florence's fiorino d'oro gold coin, a model Hungarian kings had copied since 1325.

Ethiopia's birr is issued by the National Bank of Ethiopia. The modern version dates to 1945, when it replaced the East African shilling at two shillings per birr, though Emperor Menelik II had already struck Ethiopian coins at the Paris Mint in 1894.
