Uganda first issued its own shilling in 1966 through the Bank of Uganda, replacing the East African shilling at par. Runaway inflation later forced a reset: in 1987 a new shilling replaced the old at 100 to 1, and that is the currency used today.

Bangladesh introduced the taka on 4 March 1972, a few months after winning independence, replacing the Pakistani rupee at par. Bangladesh Bank issues notes of 10 taka and above, while the finance ministry puts out the small 2 and 5 taka notes. The name comes from the Sanskrit tanka, a silver coin.
